Every year, the Montréal fire department (Service de sécurité incendie) publishes its activity report. It is the opportunity to present the inspection and awareness activities carried out, to provide a full overview of the department, and to highlight the year’s main accomplishments and response operations. The report also aims to inform readers about emerging risks and safety measures to take.  

• The Montréal fire department (SIM) has raised awareness among the owners of 88,667 dwelling units regarding their obligation to install a 10-year sealed lithium battery-operated smoke alarm.
• Fires caused by human error have been reduced from 85% to 56%, which represents a 29 % drop.
• More than 80% of dwelling units in rental buildings are now equipped with a functional smoke alarm.
