Every year, the Montréal fire department (Service de sécurité incendie) publishes its activity report. It is the opportunity to present the inspection and awareness activities carried out, to provide a full overview of the department, and to highlight the year’s main accomplishments and response operations. The report also aims to inform readers about emerging risks and safety measures to take.

A few numbers to illustrate SIM activities in 2024:

  • 129,822 emergency interventions, an 8% increase on 2022 and a 1% increase on 2023;
  • 1,600 high-risk buildings visited by firefighters and prevention officers;
  • 140,000 people received information, including diverse groups such as the homeless and retailers selling lithium-ion batteries.
