Training

To become a firefighter in Montréal, you must have completed three years of fire safety training, which consists of:

• A professional studies diploma – Fire safety intervention (1 year)
• A college studies diploma – Fire safety techniques (2 years)

The professional studies diploma in fire safety intervention is offered by the following educational institutions:

• Institut de protection contre les incendies du Québec (IPIQ) (in French)
• Centre de formation professionnelle de Neufchâtel (IPIQ) (in French)
• Académie des pompiers (in French)
• Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy (in French)

The college studies diploma in fire safety techniques is offered by the following educational institutions:

• Collège Montmorency (in French)
• Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy (in French)

Requirements

You must also meet the following requirements to be able to submit your application during recruitment periods:

• Complete fire safety training (Professional studies diploma and college studies diploma)
• Have a valid class 4A driver’s license.
