Karine Éthier, human resources manager responsible for staffing and manning, took part in the Scott Montreal High Rise Challenge for the first time in 2013. Accompanied by 14 employees from various departments and divisions within the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM) as well as four friends, she will be back to support the cause of Muscular Dystrophy Canada in 2015. And once again this year, she will serve as captain of the “Les toniques pour Erwan” team.
“I decided to get involved again this year because I believe this event is an excellent way to test your limits. The Scott Montreal High Rise Challenge is unique, it’s urban, and the proceeds have a direct impact on the people affected by this disease. This cause is also close to my heart because Erwan is the son of a friend who is also part of the team,” said Karine Éthier.
Who is Erwan?
6-year-old Erwan has spinal muscular atrophy, a form of muscular dystrophy. His father, Manouane Beauchamp, will be taking part in the event for the second time.
“When we learned that Erwan has spinal muscular atrophy, Muscular Dystrophy Canada was the first to come forward with equipment for Erwan. This event is a way for me to give a little something back in recognition of their support,” said Mr. Beauchamp.
The proceeds raised during this event go toward financing research aimed at finding a cure for this disease. “We know how to cure people with muscular dystrophy, but what’s missing is the path to get there. A means must be found to modify the genetic structure,” added Mr. Beauchamp. The Scott Montreal High Rise Challenge is an excellent way to raise public awareness about the disease, according to Mr. Beauchamp.
