The Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM) is proud to announce the acquisition of two new ladder trucks, each equipped with a 137-foot (42 metres) ladder. The new trucks will be delivered in March, and they are expected to be put into service in July 2015.
This type of vehicle allows firefighters to safely carry out rescue operations and extinguish fires on tall buildings, and to limit damage to materials. There are more than 630 buildings on the Island of Montréal that exceed the reach of a 100-foot (30 metre) ladder. The new ladder trucks will also provide added support to high-angle rescue teams.
The 137-foot ladder trucks will replace two similar vehicles with over 20 years of service. The new trucks will be assigned to station 15 in the Sud-Ouest borough and station 73 in the Saint-Laurent borough.
