Montréal, 04 September 2015 - This year’s theme is “Keeping an Eye on Your Safety,” as the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM) announces Fire Prevention and Emergency Management Month, to be held from September 14 to October 11. The SIM will be offering a series of activities designed to appeal to all ages all month long.

SIM employees will be informing Montrealers about smoke alarms, cooking fires and the 72-hour kit. They’ll also be taking the opportunity to share prevention tips in line with fire safety by-laws and tell people about their responsibility for keeping themselves and their homes safe.

Family activities

To get Fire Prevention Month off on the right foot, Montréal agglomeration residents are invited to a huge family event to be held in Angrignon park on Saturday, September 5, from noon to 5 p.m. There will be activities of all kinds for everyone to enjoy. People will also be able to visit various kiosks, meet our prevention experts and watch different demonstrations. The day will kick off with a parade of vintage fire trucks through the streets of the Sud-Ouest Borough, starting at 11 a.m. and ending in Angrignon park. All the vintage vehicles will be on display there in the afternoon (the parade route is available on the SIM website). Representatives of the fire department and its partners will be on hand in the big tent behind the Angrignon metro station.

On Saturday, September 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., a day of activities for the whole family will be held in Henri-Bourassa park, at the corner of Rolland and Pascal streets, behind Station 18, in the Montréal-Nord Borough. Montrealers are invited to come out and visit information booths on fire safety and civil protection, the fire safety simulator, vintage vehicles and fire trucks.

The Big Evacuation

On Wednesday, October 7, at 7 p.m., in co-operation with the Ministère de la Sécurité publique, the SIM will be inviting Montréal agglomeration residents to take part in the Big Evacuation, designed to encourage families to practise their evacuation plans, at the same time on the same day.

The complete schedule for Montréal Fire Prevention and Emergency Management Month will be available shortly on the SIM website.
