Montréal, 06 October 2015 - As part of Montréal Fire Prevention and Emergency Management Month, there will be a “Big Evacuation” for Greater Montréal residents at 7 p.m. on October 7, 2015. The event, arranged by the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM) in co-operation with the Ministère de la Sécurité publique (MSP), will call on all residents, and families in particular, to practise their evacuation plans, at the same time on the same day.
For the fifth edition of this exercise, eight sectors of the Montréal agglomeration are being invited to take part in an evacuation drill supervised by the SIM. This is an opportunity to remind everyone of just how important it is to have a fire evacuation plan and a smoke detector.
The Big Evacuation will be held in eight sectors on Montréal Island, under the supervision of the SIM:
Dollard-des-Ormeaux – Roxboro borough
Rue Angora from rue Hyman
Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough
Rue St-Urbain, between Sauvé Ouest and Sauriol Ouest
Côte-des-Neiges – Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough
Place Decelle, from rue Decelle
Sud-Ouest borough
Rue George Étienne Cartier, between Notre-Dame and St-Ambroise
Ville-Marie borough
Rue Wurtele, between Hochelaga and Ontario
Rosemont – La Petite-Patrie borough
Place Basile Patenaude
Montréal-Nord borough
Rue Chartrand, between Gouin and Léger boulevard
Rivière-des-Prairies - Pointe-aux-Trembles borough
25e avenue, between Notre-Dame Est and Prince Albert
At 7 p.m. on October 7, Greater Montréal residents will be invited to follow their own evacuation plans and evacuate their homes. Residents in the participating sectors will be supervised by SIM staff. Note that these residents have already been notified of this supervised exercise.
For more details on this event and advice on how to prepare for it, everyone is invited to visit the SIM and MSP websites.
