Montréal, 29 May 2017 - Anie Samson, Vice-Chair of the Montréal Executive Committee responsible for public security and citizen services, together with the Director of the Service des sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM), Bruno Lachance, and the Lieutenant-Governor of Québec, the Honourable Michel J. Doyon, Sunday paid tribute to the active and retired firefighters who have died over the past year.

“A ceremony commemorating the firefighters who have died has been a tradition since 1894. It is an opportunity to honour the memory of the firefighters who have passed away during the year, in the presence of families and colleagues from the SIM. I would like to acknowledge the special involvement of the men and women who have dedicated their career to ensuring the security of Montrealers,” said Anie Samson.

“The firefighters who are no longer with us watch over us. This annual commemoration is an opportunity to pay tribute to our predecessors who worked with the same passion and sense of duty that is still part of the SIM’s mission. I would like to thank the firefighters who work actively each day to ensure the safety of citizens through their know-how, professionalism and dedication,” added Bruno Lachance.

A special mass was celebrated by Father Desroches to mark this special occasion. The firefighters on duty held a minute of silence in honour of their deceased colleagues. The Guard of Honour was present for the wreath-laying ceremony at the foot of the monument in honour of the deceased firefighters.
