Montréal, 23 May 2014 - On Sunday, May 25, 2014, the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM), in collaboration with the Association des pompiers retraités de Montréal (APRM), will pay tribute to the men and women who shaped its history during the traditional commemoration of fallen firefighters. The SIM will mark a major change this year by staging the ceremony at the Centre de services financiers des pompiers, which houses the magnificent monument in honour of Québec firefighters who died in the line of duty.

While staying true to tradition, the new formula is sure to breathe new life into the event. Thus, under the watchful eye of the two firefighters depicted by the monument, bereaved families that have lost a loved one who served with the SIM will be able to honour their memory and that of all firefighters who die in the line of duty. Ms. Anie Samson, vice-president of the executive committee in charge of public safety and services to citizens, and Mr. Christian Paradis, Assistant Director with the SIM, will take part in the event.

At the outset of the ceremony, active Montréal firefighters will observe a minute of silence for their fallen brethren. Reverend Raymond Gravel, the fire department chaplain, will preside over the ceremony.
