Each year in Montréal, some 115,000 tenants move house, most of them in July. To ensure a peaceful move to your new home as well as safety for all occupants, please take care of the following items:
Remember to :
-
Take unwanted items to donation centres, check the schedule of bulky objects in your borough by calling 311, or take bulky objects directly to an ecocentre.
-
Find a new guardian for pets or take them to a shelter so they can be adopted.
-
Update your pet’s file by calling 311 and register him or her if you haven’t already.
-
Prevent and control bedbug infestations: for yourself, future tenants and your neighbours.
-
Be sure there is a working smoke detector in your new home.
A smoke detector is still the most effective and least expensive way to save lives in the event of a fire. When you arrive in your new home, make sure that there is a smoke detector with a permenant lithium battery guaranteed to last 10 years. If necessary, replace old smoke detectors with models that have a lithium battery.
Occupants, whether they are tenants or building owners, are responsible for maintaining the smoke detector in good working owner. To find out if a smoke detector is working correctly, just hold the test button down until you hear a beep.
Remember that it’s important that we keep our city clean and safe during moving season.
